Streetmap v Google – RBB testifies in abuse of dominance damages case

RBB has provided expert testimony in the UK High Court hearing of an abuse of dominance damages claim brought by Streetmap, an online mapping provider, against Google, the search engine.  Streetmap claimed that Google has abused an allegedly dominant position in search, by bundling Google Search and Google Maps, displaying a thumbnail map, drawn from Google Maps, in response to some geographic search queries.  An RBB team led by Patrick Smith, and assisted by Stephen Lewis and Callie Shenker, prepared four expert reports, covering the economic nature and effects of the conduct, and the consequences of prohibition.  During the hearing Patrick testified in a hot-tub involving expert economists from both parties.  RBB was instructed by Bristows LLP, solicitors acting for Google.
