On May 15 the Swedish Competition Authority unconditionally cleared the acquisition by TeliaSonera of Zitius, Quadracom Networks, Quadracom Services, QMarket and Riksnet. The overlap was primarily in the provision of communications operator services to network owners, where TeliaSonera and Zitius are the two leading communications operators. We assisted in showing that TeliaSonera and Zitius are not often the closest competitors although they are large players. We also showed that network owners can influence the competitive situation downstream if they want to, thus restraining the market power of the communications operator.
