Portuguese pharmacy distribution deal re-approved

On March 20, the Portuguese Autoridade da Concorrência unconditionally approved the acquisitions by José de Mello Participações II and national pharmacy association-owned Farminveste of 2% and 49% shares respectively in Alliance Healthcare, a distributor of pharmaceutical and other health-related products.  Interestingly, since the AdC was reconsidering a transaction that was originally completed in 2007, this case presented a rare opportunity for a competition authority effectively to revisit the outcomes of a merger.  RBB advised alongside lawyers PLMJ.
