David Henriques

Dr David Henriques is a consultant competition economist based in RBB’s London office. Before joining RBB in 2020, he was an economist at Ofcom, where he advised on several competition and regulatory matters for nearly eight years.

David has been recognised by the Lexology Index (Who’s Who Legal) in the directory for Competition Economists. He has also been recognised by peers for developing novel approaches to competition issues in sports media rights and auction design.

David leads project teams and provides economic advice to clients and their legal advisors across a wide range of sectors and jurisdictions. He brings both economic rigour and practical insights to complex competition and regulatory matters.

David’s practice spans auction and market design, coordination cases, litigation, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory issues. His sectoral experience covers artificial intelligence, banking, electronic payments, fast-moving consumer goods, healthcare, intellectual property and media rights, live entertainment, ports, security services, telecommunications, and tile coatings.

David has published in leading international economic and policy journals, including Concurrences, Information Economics and Policy, Journal of Industry, Competition and Trade, Review of Industrial Organization, Review of Network Economics and Telecommunications Policy. His research and analysis have also been published by the London School of Economics, the European Central Bank, and Ofcom.

David holds both a BSc and a PhD in Economics from Nova School of Business and Economics (Lisbon, Portugal). He was a PhD Visiting Scholar at New York University – Stern School of Business (NY, US) between 2009 and 2011. He was also a Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics (London, UK) between 2016 and 2020.

David lectured undergraduate- and graduate-level courses on Industrial Organization, Microeconomics, Analysis of Industry and Competition, and Competitive Strategy at Nova SBE.

He works fluently in both English and Portuguese.
