OFT clears food brands merger

On 5 February 2007 the UK Office of Fair Trading cleared the proposed merger between Premier Foods and RHM without conditions. The merger involved the combination of a number of leading UK branded food products, including Oxo and Bisto. The OFT concluded that the merger would not result in a substantial lessening of competition, due to a combination of factors including competition from private label products and the threat of increased imports from mainland Europe. RBB provided economic advice to Premier, working with Weil Gotshal. To view the OFT’s decision, click here.
