Following a Phase I investigation, the European Commission has cleared Autogrill’s proposed acquisition of World Duty Free, a UK airport shop operator. Despite the fact that Autogrill would become the leading player in airport travel retail, the Commission concluded that the merged entity would continue to be subject to powerful competitive constraints both in bidding for retail concessions at airports and in the operation of airport shops.
