
Bastiaan Overvest joined RBB’s Amsterdam office as an Associate Principal in 2025. He completed his Master’s degree in Economics in 2004 and obtained a PhD degree on competition economics in 2009 at the University of Groningen.
As a case handler and researcher at the Netherlands’ Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), Bastiaan worked on a wide range of cases, including an assessment of abuse of dominance in the postal sector (inter alia predatory pricing and bundling), mergers in media and telecom, (tacit) collusion in auctions and telecom, and market investigations into the banking and insurance industries.
Between 2014 and 2025 Bastiaan was a programme leader at the department for Competition and Regulation, at the Netherlands’ Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis (CPB). In this capacity, he advised ministries on issues such as gambling regulation, digital competition and the New Competition Tool. During 2023 and 2025 he held a concurrent part-time position at Utrecht University as a lecturer for two Msc courses on European competition policy.
Throughout his career, Bastiaan has published regularly in international and national journals, contributing to the dialogue on competition economics in publications such as the Journal of Competition Law & Economics, ESB and Markt & Mededinging.
