Johannesburg
Alex is a Senior Associate in the Johannesburg office, having joined the firm in 2022.
He has advised clients on a diverse range of competition law matters, including mergers, investigations, and abuse of dominance cases (such as pricing inquiries), across jurisdictions in Africa, Europe and Asia.
Alex holds an undergraduate degree in mathematics and economics, as well as a master's degree in economics (with distinction), from the University of the Witwatersrand.
In his role as a consultant competition economist, Alex has nearly 4 years’ experience of advising clients across a wide range of industries. These include healthcare, gambling, oil, electronic design automation and semiconductor IP, real estate technology, air travel, and health and fitness.
His experience spans a broad range of competition economics topics, including competitive effects assessment, pricing and profitability analyses, geospatial (local) market analysis, and the evaluation of market dynamics in regulated and unregulated markets.
Alex has worked on matters before the European Commission, the Competition Commission of South Africa, the UK’s Competition and Market’s Authority, and several other authorities across Africa, Europe, and Asia.
