RBB advises Sony/BMG on EC merger clearance

On the 20th July 2004, the EC Commission cleared without conditions the merger between BMG and Sony. This decision is in marked contrast to the position taken by the Commission in the earlier Time Warner/EMI case which would have also reduced the number of leading suppliers of recorded music from 5 to 4. RBB Economics advised both BMG and Sony throughout the inquiry working closely with Philippe Chappatte and John Boyce of Slaughter and May and Nick Levy and Robbert Snelders of Cleary Gottlieb.
