Prohibition of platinum floatation chemicals acquisition overturned in South Africa

On 8 November 2012 the South African Competition Tribunal overturned an earlier decision by the Competition Commission to prohibit the acquisition of Cellulose Derivatives by Senmin, part of the AECI group.RBB economists advised both merging parties throughout the transaction, alongside legal advisors Webber Wentzel. RBB submitted an expert economic report assessing the competitive effects of the merger and evaluating the Competition Commission’s prohibition decision. RBB economist Richard Murgatroyd also provided oral expert testimony during the Tribunal hearing.
