EC approves General Electric / Avio merger

On 2 July 2013, the European Commission announced its decision to approve the acquisition of the aviation business of Avio by General Electric, subject to commitments.  The transaction combines a leading manufacturer of engines for commercial and military aircraft with a leading supplier of engine components and maintenance services.  After a detailed investigation, the Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would not raise competition concerns regarding the supply of components by Avio to GE’s competitors in aircraft engine markets, and that the commitments offered would protect the strategic information of GE’s rivals within the Eurojet consortium.  RBB Economics advised GE during the course of the Commission’s investigation, working alongside Skadden LLP in Brussels.
