In addition to working
on numerous EC cases involving analysis of Nordic markets, the
economists at RBB also have experience of domestic cases considered
by the various national competition authorities. Our experience
on such cases spans many sectors of the economy including banking
and financial services, metals, petrochemicals, commercial aviation,
telecommunications, dairy products, engineering, transportation
and retail distribution.
Among
the cases that our economists have been involved in are:
- Provision of an expert report on the economics of
predatory pricing in the context of an investigation by one
of the domestic competition authorities in the Nordic region,
and presentation of our work to the authority.
- Economic
advice to a major Scandinavian telecoms supplier on an acquisition
in the field of TV services and Internet access notified
to the European Commission.
- Economic advice for a Scandinavian
company active in the transport sector on a proposed merger
notified to the European Commission.
- Provision of expert economic
advice for an oil major in the context of an investigation
by the EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA).
- Preparation of a
report submitted to a Scandinavian competition authority
for a client active in the supply of consumer goods,
assessing the position of a key player in the market.
- Provision of expert
economic advice on the Phase II EC merger inquiry into the
proposed merger between the two major Swedish banks,
SEB and FSB. Our work included detailed quantitative analysis for the
definition of the relevant geographic markets and assisting the
client with submissions at various stages of the transaction.
- Preparation of a confidential expert report assessing different
possible combinations in the Scandinavian electricity sector.
- Providing pre-notification advice to a large ferry operator
on a potential acquisition in Scandinavia with the main focus
on
assessing competition between different routes and travel modes for the definition
of the relevant product and geographic markets.
- Provision of
expert economic advice to a major Nordic company in the metals
sector during the successful EC Phase I and domestic
clearances of a number of mergers.
- Expert economic advice on
the EC Phase II merger between Norwegian chemicals and explosives
company, Dyno, and venture capital group,
Industri Kapital.
- Working on the proposed EC merger between Kvaerner
and Ahlstrom on the supply of pulp machinery equipment.
- Advice
and report on the economic aspects of the merger between Telia
and Telenor. This merger was subject to EC Merger Control
and an economic presentation was made to the Merger Task Force.
- Working
on the complex conditional Phase I merger clearance of the
merger between the two beverage can producers, Rexam
and
ANC.
- Preparation of an expert report assessing the economic impact
of the proposed merger between, Arla and MD Foods, which was
cleared
by the Swedish and Danish national competition authorities.
- Provision
of expert economic advice for Enso and Stora in their dealings
with the European Commission in the context of the merger
of their paper businesses. The deal was cleared subject to commitments
after a Phase II investigation.
- Provision of expert economic
advice to Scancem in relation to its appeal to the European
Court of First Instance (CFI) concerning
alleged cartel activities in the cement industry, and also
in the course of the Phase II EC Merger Regulation investigation
into
its takeover by Skanska.
