Car rental companies cleared of information sharing in France

In February 2017, the French Competition Authority (FCA) published a decision dismissing concerns regarding information sharing between car-rental companies including Hertz, Europcar, Avis and Sixt. The FCA’s Statement of Objections had argued that the sending of monthly statistics by the airports to car rental companies, including inter alia rivals’ individualised market shares, was anti-competitive.However, further analysis submitted to the FCA, including detailed economic evidence, established that these statistics could not help to achieve nor maintain coordination between the car rental companies. RBB Economics advised Hertz alongside law firm White & Case.
